Pain. That's the word that best describes my competition in Kranj. Since the nordic championships I have not been able to climb at all because of a nasty pain my back. It got increasingly worse until I just couldn't climb anymore. I was optimistic though, cause I thought that with a good rest and with the help of some painkillers I would be able to finish the competition without problems. Already when warming up I realized that this was NOT the case. I felt the familiar pain on the left side of my lower back and decided not to warm up any more. The first qualification went fairly well but after that even walking was extremely painful. I considered skipping the second qualification but eventually I decided to do it anyway. My final placement was 18th, quite a disappointment, but I was just relieved it was over.
From this trip I at least learnt that it's not a good idea to travel abroad if your back hurts, just to discover that you can't climb. I have to see how long it takes for my back to heal but hopefully I can participate in some of the competitions later this year..
Altogether the European Youth series didn't go as well as I had hoped, but once my back I fixed I will start training again and hopefully I will do better next year. I might not go to all of the competitions but hopefully to some of them at least.
